You need the paperwork
An International Driving Permit plus your home licence. Police checkpoints are routine and fines are real — a driver avoids the question entirely.

Distances lie
Twenty kilometres can take ninety minutes. Uluwatu to Canggu at 6pm is not a quick trip — plan dinner accordingly.

Scooters aren't for everyone
They're the fastest way around Canggu and the fastest way to a Bali tattoo. If you've never ridden one, take a driver instead.
