On Jalan Raya Semat: MîA and Miss Fish. On Jalan Pemelisan Agung: Jade by Todd English and Riviera Bistro. Most are made for sharing, several turn into a party after dinner, and all of them fill up at the weekend. FirstBali books them through the concierge.

Dinner that turns into the party

Berawa's signature evening is a long, shared dinner that changes mood as the night goes on.

BELLA is a contemporary Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant run by The SEN Group. Executive chef Oğuz Karadoğan, who previously cooked in Istanbul, cooks a wood-fired menu for sharing: lamb meatballs in rich tomato sauce with Hokkaido bread, a Mediterranean ceviche of seabass with kefir and gremolata, a whole roasted cauliflower with tahini. The room is built around an open kitchen, a long bar and a DJ booth, with weekly Taverna nights and Kitchen Party. More in the BELLA guide.

Moi takes its cue from the Aegean and from Bodrum, home of its sister address MOI Bodrum. The kitchen works with fire and Mediterranean flavours, the cocktails draw on sun-warmed botanicals, and after sunset the evening turns into a party. Its themed nights include Monday Society and Bazaar MOI, an Eastern Mediterranean dinner spectacle with dancers and costumes. More in the Moi guide.

Jade by Todd English is a Mediterranean restaurant and bar whose culinary direction draws on the American chef known for his flagship restaurant, Olives. The kitchen cooks around a wood-fire grill with produce from local farms, on a menu designed for sharing; the cocktails have an Asian touch. Warm lighting and earthy tones set the room, with a DJ every day and weekly late-night events.

Jade by Todd English

Jade by Todd English

Restaurants · Berawa

Jade by Todd English is a Mediterranean restaurant and bar in Berawa, whose culinary direction draws on American chef Todd English, known for his flagship restaurant Olives. The kitchen works around a wood-fire grill, with a focus on local farms and producers, on a menu designed for sharing among friends. The cocktail bar gives its drinks an Asian touch. Warm lighting and earthy tones set the room, and the mood shifts as the night goes on, with a daily DJ and weekly late-night events.

Candlelight and a wine list

Riviera Bistro is the original venue of Riviera Group, which also runs Riviera Trattoria in Pererenan and Riviera Cafe in Cemagi. The kitchen works with fresh pasta and local ingredients — tagliatelle in a Wagyu beef and pork ragù, a cacio e pepe risotto with tuna battuta — alongside an extensive wine list, aperitifs at the bar and candlelit tables. On Saturdays the evening turns into PRÏVE, with cocktails and DJs.

Japanese and modern Asian

Miss Fish is a Japanese restaurant and late-night venue on Jalan Raya Semat. Executive chef Carlos Barvo leads a seasonal omakase that pairs Japanese technique with European and Latin American influences. You choose your seat: the Omakase Bar, an onyx counter guided by the chef; the open-air Patio; or the Lounge, for cocktails and shared plates. The bar keeps a long list of sakes and Japanese whiskies, DJs take over later in the evening, and the dress code is smart casual.

MîA, on the same street, is a modern Asian restaurant and bar with a menu built for sharing: Wagyu gyoza with karashi, soft-shell crab with amazu ponzu, Chilean sea bass tempura, Thai green curry, with drinks made to match. The setting mixes modern style with traditional touches under the open sky, and the restaurant hosts private events, birthdays included, with menus adapted to the group.

Steak over charcoal

Aged & Butchered is the island branch of the Jakarta dry-aged steakhouse of the same name, run by MDA Restaurants inside The Komu hotel. The draw is its meat library of dry-aged cuts, grilled over coffee-wood charcoal, with Japanese yakiniku-style grills at the table where the chefs cook in front of you. The moody room adds a sake fountain, a large wine collection and an outdoor bar.

Just outside Berawa, in Canggu

Giselle, on Jalan Tanah Barak, was created by a group of friends from hospitality who call it "a house for friends, strangers, and stories". The mood is the Riviera brought to Bali, across a dining room and a courtyard; seafood leads, with crudos, a seafood platter, sea bream sashimi and flambéed fish, alongside homemade pasta. On Friday and Saturday nights, Club 55 takes over after dinner.

Ina Ré is the restaurant of Desa Kitsuné. Chilean executive chef Cristian Encina brings together Mediterranean flavours and Latin American street food — paellas to share, ceviches, tacos, empanadas, wood-fired meats — in a space that draws on Balinese arts and crafts, with private dining rooms for groups and a Sunday brunch menu.

Zai Cafe, on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, serves from breakfast through dinner: flatbreads and dips in the morning, octopus with harissa and orzo or grilled prawns with passion fruit sauce in the evening, and a DJ on Fridays.

Ceremonial matcha goes into drinks and desserts, and on Fridays a DJ sets the mood.

Before and after

Jalan Pantai Berawa is also the road of Finns and Atlas, so a sunset at a beach club and dinner on the same street makes a natural Berawa evening; book both and leave time between them. After dinner, The Shady Pig is a speakeasy on the same road, themed on the Birmingham bootleggers of the 1920s: an unmarked door, a password, experimental cocktails and DJs later in the night.

How to book

Friday and Saturday nights, and anywhere in high season, are the ones to book ahead. Say how many you are in the first message: a table for four is a reservation, a table for ten is a seating plan the restaurant has to arrange. Tell the concierge the date, the number and the kind of evening — a birthday, a quiet dinner for two, a group that wants to dance afterwards — and we ask the restaurant. The table is yours once it confirms.
