First date in Bali: where to meet, talk and carry on

For a first date in Bali, meet for a drink somewhere you can talk — a speakeasy, a sunset bar, a lounge — with a next stop nearby if it goes well. Where to go, and how to keep it simple.

For a first date in Bali, meet for a drink rather than a long dinner, somewhere you can hear each other — a speakeasy, a sunset bar, a lounge — and pick a place with a natural next step nearby: a restaurant, a garden party, DJs later in the night. Keep it in one area, arrive separately, and leave the big nights for later. Here are the places FirstBali books that fit that shape.

Start with a drink, not a dinner

A drink leaves you both free. If the conversation flows, dinner can follow; if it does not, nobody is stuck through three courses. The places below all serve drinks with something to share, and most turn livelier as the evening goes on, so the date can grow without changing address.

A door with a password

The Shady Pig, on Jalan Pantai Berawa, is a speakeasy themed on old Birmingham bootleggers. It hides behind an unmarked door, and you need the password to get in — which gives a first date something to talk about before the first drink. The cocktails lean experimental, from distillation to barrel ageing, with small plates, pinchos and sandwiches alongside, and DJs take over later in the night. Our cocktail bars guide lists more addresses.

A sunset to share

A sunset gives a first date its opening line. Rock Bar, AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretches along the rocks above the ocean; guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, and stay as the DJs play on. Visitors who are not staying at the resort can reserve, and payment is by card or QR only. More options in the sunset bars guide.

A lounge with a counter

At Miss Fish in Berawa, the Lounge serves cocktails and shared plates and the open-air Patio is there for a slower drink; if the evening goes well, the Omakase Bar is the chef-guided onyx counter for dinner, and DJs take over later. The dress code is smart casual. In Canggu, Giselle is a Mediterranean restaurant across a dining room and a courtyard, with plates for sharing; on Friday and Saturday nights Club 55 takes over after dinner.

If it goes well: the garden in Canggu

Desa Kitsuné is a lifestyle village in Canggu, where Café Kitsuné, the Ina Ré restaurant and a Maison Kitsuné boutique share a garden. Every Tuesday and Friday that Garden becomes the party, rain or shine. A dinner at Ina Ré can turn into the party a few steps away, or stay a dinner. The parties are 21+ with a valid photo ID, smart casual, and the venue says mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred. Entry through the guestlist is free to register: each of you signs up individually on the night's page, linked from the events calendar. Entry is complimentary before the cutoff shown there, reduced after, and earlier for men; registration does not guarantee complimentary entry.

Saving the big night for later

Savaya on the Uluwatu cliffs and Zumana at Sunset Bay in Kuta make memorable second or third dates: Savaya's Last Light on Mondays is a sunset set from The Cube, and Zumana's Ritual of the Sun is on Saturdays. Both are 21+ with a valid photo ID, and at both a table is the only reserved space. Date night in Bali pairs each with a dinner.

Keep it simple and safe

  • Arrive separately. Each of you makes your own way there and home; the concierge can book you a driver.
  • Tell a friend. Share where you are going and with whom.
  • Stay in public places for a first meeting, and keep your phone charged.
  • Bring ID if the evening might end in a club: all three partner clubs check it at the door.

Our night-out safety guide has more. In an emergency, call 112.

How FirstBali arranges it

Tell the concierge the area and the evening you have in mind. We ask the bar or restaurant for a table, and it is yours once the venue confirms it; a driver can be added in the same conversation. An assistant answers at any hour, the team through the Bali day and evening.
