The best places to watch the sunset in Bali with a drink are on the coast that faces it. On the cliffs: Rock Bar in Jimbaran, El Kabron's Sunset Theater in Uluwatu, Luna in Tabanan. On the sand: Finns and Atlas in Berawa and Zumana at Sunset Bay in Kuta. The view is free; the seat facing it is the thing to book.
How the sunset works in Bali
The sun sets over the sea on the west side of the island, so the sunset coast runs from Tabanan down through Canggu and Kuta to Jimbaran and the cliffs of the Bukit peninsula. Two choices shape the evening: cliff or beach, and quiet or party. Clifftop venues give height and a wide horizon; beach clubs give sand, a pool and a party that carries on after dark.
Uluwatu: the cliffs
El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu. Its Sunset Theater, at the cliff edge, is set up for sunset dinners, and the venue promises "phenomenal sunsets all year round". The Sunset Theater and the pool area are adults-only; smart casual, resort wear or elegant attire is asked for at the Theater, and swimwear is not. Regular sunset parties, such as the White Sunset Party, pair DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet.
Savaya, the clifftop club in Pecatu, gives its Mondays to the sunset with Last Light, which the venue describes as "the only place on the Bukit Peninsula where the magic hour isn't a backdrop. It's the main event." It is strictly 21+.

Jimbaran: Rock Bar
Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's bar on the rocks above the ocean in Jimbaran. You reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The cocktails are inspired by the colours of the sea, alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment is by card or QR only, so leave the cash at home.

Kuta: Zumana at Sunset Bay
Zumana is the Savaya Group's beach club at Sunset Bay, with beachfront daybeds, poolside spaces and an open-air dance floor, and its Saturday is called Ritual of the Sun. It is 21+ and asks for smart casual, so dress for the door as well as the beach.
Canggu and Berawa: sunset from a daybed
The Berawa beachfront is the classic beach club sunset. Finns Beach Club, adults-only, stretches along the sand with pools, cabanas and DJs and live singers every day; the daybeds nearest the sea are the scarce ones. Atlas Beach Club puts beanbags on the sand facing the sea, and promises diners "a front-row seat to Bali's iconic sunsets".

FINNS Beach Club stretches along the beachfront at Berawa, in Canggu, under a bamboo structure designed by PBM Architecture. It is adults-only and divided into several party zones, from FINNS Beach Party and FINNS Garden Party to FINNS Grey Goose Party and FINNS VIP Party, with pools, swim-up bars, private cabanas, dance floors and restaurants spread across the site. Resident DJs and live singers keep an all-day party going every day, and the club also hosts private events, birthdays and corporate groups.

Atlas Beach Club sits on Berawa Beach and bills itself as the biggest beach club in the world. Its signature beanbags sit right on the sand facing the sea, beside a vast pool and a pool bar where DJs play through the day. Daybeds and sofas are spread across distinct zones, from The Deck restaurant overlooking the beach to the Party Side in front of the stage. Daily shows draw on the four elements, and a beachfront padel court and a 100-metre flying fox complete the site.

Tabanan: Luna
Luna Beach Club is perched on the cliffs of the Tabanan coast, inside Nuanu Creative City by Nyanyi Beach, west of Canggu. DJs play through sunset, and evenings bring fire and light shows. Getting the front row
- Book the seat that faces the sea. Daybeds, front tables and balcony seats are what everyone wants, and they go first at weekends and in high season. Most carry a minimum spend that the venue sets; nobody can quote it without asking for your date.
- Arrive well before the sun goes. The last hour of light is the point, and the roads towards the coast fill up at the same moment for everyone.
- Check the sky. Our advice, not a venue rule: in the rainy season, cloud can hide the horizon, so keep the day flexible if the sunset is the reason for going.
- Plan the way back. Clifftop roads are dark and long after the show. A driver who waits is the simplest answer: see transport.
