Valentine's Day in Bali is best planned as three moments: a sunset, a dinner for two, and either a quiet end to the evening or a party. The tables that face the sea are the first to go on any romantic date, so ask early, and let FirstBali request them through the concierge. A table is yours only once the venue has confirmed it.

Why it fills up early

Valentine's Day falls on a fixed date, and every couple on the island is looking at the same handful of views. Venues often set a special format for the evening, and they announce it on their own schedule, so nothing in this guide promises a menu or a night. What does not change is the geography: the cliffs of the Bukit for the sunset, the beachfront and garden addresses of Canggu for dinner and a later evening.

A sunset first

On the Bukit peninsula, two catalogue venues are built around the moment the sun goes down:

  • El Kabron, on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, has a Sunset Theater at the cliff edge set up for sunset dinners, and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak.
  • Rock Bar, AYANA Bali's bar on the rocks of Jimbaran, is reached by inclinator; guests watch the sun set over the sea and stay as the DJs play on. Some areas are kept for resort guests, which is worth knowing before you set your heart on a particular deck.

El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.

Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretching some 270 metres along the rocks above the ocean, with 880 seats spread over 22 areas. Guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The bar pours cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment by card or QR only.

Dinner for two

If the evening is about the table, choose the room before the menu.

  • Koral at The Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua, which the hotel presents as Bali's first aquarium restaurant, serves set and tasting menus beside the tanks, adults only at dinner.
  • Giselle in Canggu brings the Riviera to Bali across a dining room and a courtyard, with seafood leading the menu.
  • CURE and Sazón at Regent Bali Canggu, both led by chef Andrew Walsh, suit a dinner on the Batu Bolong beachfront.

The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a five-star resort on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, facing the Indian Ocean, and its dining spreads across several venues. Koral, which the hotel presents as Bali's first aquarium restaurant, serves set and tasting menus beside the tanks, adults only at dinner. Izakaya by OKU is a sister to OKU in Jakarta; Reef Beach Club sits on the sand beside a 42-metre infinity pool; Bai Yun serves hot pot and dim sum; L'Atelier by Cyril Kongo is a lounge with ocean views and Mediterranean tapas.

Giselle is a Mediterranean restaurant on Jalan Tanah Barak in Canggu, created by a group of friends with deep roots in hospitality, who call it “a house for friends, strangers, and stories”. The mood is the Riviera brought to Bali, across a dining room and a courtyard. Seafood leads the menu, with crudos, a seafood platter, sea bream sashimi and flambéed fish, alongside homemade pasta and plates for sharing, built on local, responsibly sourced ingredients. On Friday and Saturday nights, Club 55 takes over after dinner.

Regent Bali Canggu is IHG's beachfront resort on Batu Bolong, on Canggu's southwest coast, and the first Regent in Indonesia. Designed by WATG with interiors by HBA, it has 150 rooms and suites. Two of its restaurants are led by Chef Andrew Walsh: Sazón, a Mediterranean neighbourhood hideaway, and CURE Bali, European cooking shaped by Asian flavours. The Beach House pairs its pool and ocean breeze with craft cocktails and seafood, and the resort is home to the first Regent Spa & Wellness.

Then a party, if you want one

Couples who want to dance after dinner are well served in Bali: the three partner clubs say that mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.

  • Desa Kitsuné in Canggu turns its garden into the party every Tuesday and Friday, rain or shine; the village also holds Ina Ré, where dinner can come first.
  • Savaya, on the clifftop in Pecatu, Uluwatu, is open daily; DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs named it number one in Asia from 2024 to 2026.
  • Zumana, a Savaya Group beach club at Sunset Bay in Kuta, runs a weekly programme of its own.

Whatever night Valentine's Day falls on, the coming nights above show what each venue has announced. Plan it in this order

  1. Pick the sunset spot, then a dinner close to it: the Bukit and Canggu are two different evenings.
  2. Ask for the table early and tell the concierge it is for Valentine's Day.
  3. Arrange the car: a car with a driver means nobody has to think about the way back.
  4. Decide on the late part last, once the venues have announced their nights.
