Bali nightlife in March: planning around Nyepi

March in Bali runs on the clubs' weekly nights, but check whether Nyepi, the Day of Silence, falls in your stay: the island stops for a day. How to plan the nights around it.

Updated October 26, 2026 · 4 min read

A March stay in Bali runs on the partner venues' weekly programmes, from Savaya's Monday sunset to Desa Kitsuné's garden parties and Zumana's Saturday. The one thing to check first is Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence: its date moves every year and, in recent years, it has fallen in March. On that day the whole island stops, venues included, so plan your nights around it. Check each night on our events page.

First, check the date of Nyepi

Nyepi is the Balinese Hindu New Year of the Saka calendar, and everyone on the island observes it, visitors included. Because it follows that calendar, its date changes every year; check the official Indonesian holiday calendar for the year you travel. Our Nyepi guide explains the day in full.

What Nyepi means for a night out

For a full day, nobody goes out on the streets, lights are kept to a minimum and noise is avoided. Shops and entertainment venues close, and Ngurah Rai airport is closed, with no flights landing or leaving. There is no night out on Nyepi: visitors stay inside their hotel or villa, where they can still use its facilities. The evening before is the opposite: giant Ogoh-Ogoh figures are paraded through the villages and burned. If you are on the island that evening, watch respectfully and keep clear of the procession.

Building the rest of the week

Once you know the date, place your nights on the days around it. The recurring nights the venues publish:

  • Monday — Savaya's "Last Light", a sunset set from The Cube on the Uluwatu clifftop.
  • Tuesday and Friday — Desa Kitsuné's garden parties in Canggu, "rain or shine" according to the venue.
  • Weeknights — Zumana's rotation at Sunset Bay in Kuta, including "Made in Kuta".
  • Saturday — Zumana's Ritual of the Sun.
  • Weekend — Savaya's headliner nights; Sunday — Savaya's "People of the Sun" and Zumana Sunday.

If Nyepi lands on one of the nights you wanted, check the calendar for the other nights of that week. The night's page on /events is the only place that says what each night actually holds.

Flights and arrivals

Do not plan to land or leave on Nyepi. If your trip straddles it, arrive at least the day before, so that you are settled before the Ogoh-Ogoh evening. For the arrival itself, see our airport transfer guide; a late landing has its own late-night arrival guide.

A villa for the quiet day

Since the day is spent indoors, where you stay matters more than usual in a Nyepi week. A villa with its own pool and garden turns a day of silence into a day of rest. Our villas page and the villa rental guide help you choose; the concierge checks what each villa can arrange for the day, such as in-house dining.

Before you go

Keep a passport or driver's licence with you every evening: all three partner venues are 21+.

Guestlist, ticket or table

  • Guestlist. Each venue runs its own list. Register individually on the night's page and you receive a digital ticket by email. Joining is free; entry is complimentary before the cutoff shown on the night's page, reduced after it (earlier for men at Desa Kitsuné). Registration does not guarantee complimentary entry, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.
  • Tickets. Some nights are ticketed only. Buy only through the venue's own channel, linked from the night's page.
  • Table. The only reserved space. The venue sets its minimum spend per night; FirstBali books it with the venue, and it is yours once the venue confirms. Any deposit follows the venue's terms and is not a confirmation. At Savaya and Zumana, re-entry is only with a table.
  • ID. All three are 21+ with a valid photo ID: a passport or a driver's licence.

How FirstBali helps

Tell the concierge your March dates. We check whether Nyepi falls in your stay, place your nights on the days around it, check each night's terms, book tables with the venues, send the guestlist pages and arrange drivers. We tell you something is confirmed only once the venue has confirmed it. An assistant answers at any hour, and the team works through the Bali day and evening.
