Jade by Todd English is a Mediterranean restaurant and bar on Jalan Pemelisan Agung, in the Berawa part of Canggu. The kitchen cooks around a wood-fire grill with produce from local farms, on a menu designed for sharing, and the bar adds a touch of Asia to its cocktails. With a DJ every day and weekly late-night events, dinner at Jade is also the start of the night. FirstBali books it through the concierge.
What Jade is
Jade's culinary direction draws on Todd English, the American chef the restaurant describes as celebrated internationally for his rustic Mediterranean cuisine and his flagship restaurant, Olives. The room is intimate, with warm lighting and earthy tones; Jade describes a design "inspired by wanderlust and artistic expression", and moods that shift from quiet contemplation to bursts of energy as the night goes on.
The kitchen's line, in its own words: a modern wood-fire grill concept with a focus on local products, supporting local farms and producers, with "clean and precise flavours" on dishes meant to be shared among friends.
What the kitchen does
Jade's site links two menus, and they work as two sides of the same dinner.
The main menu leans Mediterranean and Italian:
- Starters: beef carpaccio with parmesan espuma and black truffle, tuna tartare with shaved foie gras, burrata with beetroot and honey black garlic, garlic prawns in white wine butter, Hokkaido scallops and prawns with cream of green peas.
- Pasta and risotto: linguine vongole, duck confit ravioli with crispy sage and black truffle, tagliatelle with pork and beef ragù crowned with burrata, and a risotto nero with squid ink and sautéed prawns.
- Meat and fish: grilled rib-eye with green peppercorn sauce, grilled striploin, a braised beef cheek open Wellington, a pork chop Milanese on the bone, roast duck breast with passion fruit, and grilled barramundi with sauce vierge.
- Desserts: tiramisu, apple crumble, crème brûlée and a hot chocolate lava cake.
The Jade Eatery menu is the wood-fire side, with a south-east Asian touch:
- Snacks and starters: grilled Sakoshi oysters with XO sauce, crab croquettes in a spiced coconut beurre blanc, a pomelo salad with shrimp and nahm jim, market fish crudo with passion fruit kosho, wood-fire grilled calamari, and a pork bao bun.
- Wood-fire mains to share: roasted cauliflower with tempe crumble, a laksa noodle with scallop, grilled octopus with gochujang glaze, wood-fire grilled market fish in coconut sauce, marinated king prawns, a half wood-fire grilled chicken with andaliman pepper sauce, pork jowl with corn polenta, and grain-fed and grass-fed steaks.
- Desserts: sticky date pudding with salted caramel gelato, and a rum baba sandwich with pistachio gelato.
Jade says it offers a wide range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes and cocktails. Some dishes contain nuts, as the menus point out.
The evening format
Jade's entertainment concept is a daily DJ and weekly late-night events. Come before dinner for a drink, stay through the meal as the music builds, or arrive later to carry on the celebration — the restaurant pitches itself for all three. Its cocktails are designed to complement the food and to bring "a show element" to the evening. Special nights change, so the concierge checks what is on for your date; our events page lists what we have.
Its venue page carries the current opening days and hours, refreshed every night from its Google listing.
Private rooms and groups
Jade can be booked for exclusive occasions across its private dining room, inside lounge, outside area and restaurant. It also has a Private Entertainment Room that combines dinner, drinks and karaoke in one space — made for birthdays, anniversaries, corporate evenings or friends who want dinner and the after-party without moving. The room's details, packages and minimum spend are set by Jade for each request.
What to wear
Jade does not publish a dress code. Its own blog suggests smart evening wear or polished resort wear — "polished rather than overly formal": a dress or an evening outfit, or a smart shirt with tailored trousers.
How to book a table
Tell the FirstBali concierge your date, the number of guests and what the evening is: dinner, dinner and the party, or a private room. Mention any occasion and dietary needs. We ask Jade on your behalf and pass on its answer, including any deposit or minimum spend it sets. The table is yours once Jade confirms it. Our birthday guide helps if it is a celebration.
