Pecatu guide: Savaya's village on the Bukit cliffs
Pecatu is the village at the western tip of Bali's Bukit: limestone cliffs, hidden surf beaches, Uluwatu Temple, and the clifftop venues Savaya and El Kabron. What is where and how to plan it.

Pecatu is the village at the western end of Bali's Bukit peninsula, and most of what people mean by "Uluwatu" is in fact inside it: Uluwatu Temple, the cliff-backed surf beaches, and the clifftop venues Savaya and El Kabron. It is a place of limestone cliffs and small hidden beaches rather than a town centre, so you come for a beach, a sunset or a night and plan the car around it. For the wider coast, read the Uluwatu guide.
Where Pecatu is
Pecatu is a village, a desa, in the South Kuta District of Badung Regency. It covers the western tip of the Bukit, the high limestone headland at the southern end of Bali. Ungasan lies to its east and Jimbaran to its north-east, on the way back towards the airport.
The ground shapes everything. The terrain is hilly, and the cliffs split the coastline into small, short beaches, each reached by its own road and, often, its own steps. The headland is dry, too: the area lacks fresh water, which is why a seawater desalination plant was built here.
Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple, the temple that shares the area's name, stands in Pecatu, on the cliffs above the ocean. It is a place of worship before it is a viewpoint: dress respectfully and follow what the temple asks of visitors on the day.
The beaches
Pecatu's beaches are tucked between the cliffs, and several are known worldwide among surfers:
- New Kuta Beach, formerly called Dreamland, is a surf beach concealed by cliffs, with Balangan just to its north.
- Bingin is popular with surfers but, in the words of its Wikipedia entry, "not recommended for novices".
- Padang Padang is described as "a world class surf beach".
- Suluban is reached through a cave and is usually quiet.
If you do not surf, they are still beautiful to look at. Ask locally about the tide and the day's conditions before you swim.
Savaya, on the cliff
Savaya is Pecatu's best-known address after dark: a clifftop club set between jungle and limestone cliffs above the Indian Ocean, with pools and The Cube, the landmark that frames its horizon. DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs named it number one in Asia three years running, 2024 to 2026, and fifth in the world in 2026.
It is open daily. Monday is Last Light, a sunset set from The Cube; the weekends bring international headliners; Sundays are People of the Sun. Some nights have the venue's own guestlist, free to join, with each guest registering individually; others are ticketed only, and the night's page says which. Registration does not guarantee complimentary entry, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.

El Kabron and the sunset
El Kabron also stands on Pecatu's limestone cliffs. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet.
El Kabron
Beach clubs · Uluwatu
El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.
White Rock Beach Club
Beach clubs · Uluwatu
White Rock Beach Club sits on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, near Uluwatu, at the end of the cliff. Guests settle on daybeds, sofas or cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool; families have a kids' pool and a kids' menu. There is a spa, a large covered restaurant serving local and international dishes, and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites overlooking the pool and the ocean. Resident DJs play every day, and foam parties run at weekends. The club also hosts weddings and events.
Rock Bar
Bars · Jimbaran
Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretching some 270 metres along the rocks above the ocean, with 880 seats spread over 22 areas. Guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The bar pours cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment by card or QR only.
Just beyond Pecatu, White Rock Beach Club sits on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, and Rock Bar is AYANA's cliffside bar in Jimbaran. Together they make the Bukit's sunset circuit; Savaya or El Kabron helps you choose between the two Pecatu names.
A day in Pecatu
- Morning: a surf or a look at the beaches, from the cliff tops if the waves are big.
- Afternoon: the temple, dressed for it.
- Sunset: El Kabron's Sunset Theater, or Savaya on a Monday for Last Light.
- Night: Savaya, with a table booked if you want a reserved place.
Getting around
Pecatu is spread out along cliff roads, with no centre to walk. Plan the car before the day starts, and above all the way home after Savaya, when everyone leaves at once. FirstBali arranges a driver who waits through transport.
How FirstBali helps
Tell the concierge the day you have in mind. It books Savaya and El Kabron tables with the venues, sends you the night's guestlist page, and checks what can be arranged for the car. Nothing is confirmed until the venue confirms it. An assistant answers at any hour; the team works through the Bali day and evening.
