Uluwatu guide: the Bukit cliffs, area by area
Uluwatu is Bali's clifftop south: Savaya and El Kabron in Pecatu, White Rock on Melasti Beach, Rock Bar in Jimbaran. How the area is laid out, what a day looks like and how to get around.

Uluwatu is the clifftop end of Bali: the southern coast of the Bukit peninsula, where limestone cliffs drop to the Indian Ocean and most venues are built to face the sunset. It is not one village but a string of places along the coast — Pecatu, Ungasan, Melasti Beach — with Jimbaran on the way in. Come for the views, the beach clubs on the rocks and one of the island's most celebrated clubs, and plan around a car rather than a walk.
How Uluwatu is laid out
Think of the Bukit as a high, dry headland joined to the rest of Bali at Jimbaran. The places people come for are spread out along its edge:
- Pecatu, on the western cliffs, holds Savaya and El Kabron.
- Ungasan, further along, runs down to Melasti Beach, where White Rock Beach Club sits at the end of the cliff.
- Jimbaran, on the bay before the peninsula, is home to AYANA and its Rock Bar.
- Nusa Dua, on the eastern side of the Bukit, is the resort enclave: calmer water, large hotels, a different pace. It has its own guide.
There is no main street to wander. Each address is a destination, and you pick one or two in a day.
A day in Uluwatu
The rhythm here is simple: a slow start, the afternoon by a pool above the sea, the sunset as the hinge, then dinner or a night out.
- Afternoon on the cliff. El Kabron's Hedonism Lounge is an adults-only area with oceanfront daybeds and sofas by what the venue calls its infinity pool. White Rock, on Melasti Beach, has daybeds, sofas and cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool, with a kids' pool for families.
- Sunset. Stay where you are, or move to Rock Bar in Jimbaran, which you reach by inclinator to watch the sun go down over the sea.
- The evening. Dinner with a view, then home — or on to Savaya.
El Kabron
Beach clubs · Uluwatu
El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.
White Rock Beach Club
Beach clubs · Uluwatu
White Rock Beach Club sits on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, near Uluwatu, at the end of the cliff. Guests settle on daybeds, sofas or cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool; families have a kids' pool and a kids' menu. There is a spa, a large covered restaurant serving local and international dishes, and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites overlooking the pool and the ocean. Resident DJs play every day, and foam parties run at weekends. The club also hosts weddings and events.
Beach clubs
Uluwatu's beach clubs sit on the rocks more often than on the sand. El Kabron has stood on the Pecatu cliffs since 2011, with sunset parties that pair DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet. White Rock has resident DJs every day, foam parties at weekends and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites over the pool and the ocean. The full comparison, with what to book, is in the Uluwatu beach clubs guide.
Nightlife
The big name is Savaya, in Pecatu, set "100 metres above the Indian Ocean" in the venue's words, with pools and The Cube framing the horizon. DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs poll, as the venue reports it, named it the number-one club in Asia from 2024 to 2026 and fifth in the world in 2026. It is strictly 21+ with photo ID, smart casual at the door. Some nights have the venue's own free guestlist and some are ticketed only; each night's page says which.

How to shape a night around it — sunset first, club second — is the subject of Uluwatu nightlife.
Eating out
Most Uluwatu dinners come with the horizon. El Kabron's Mediterranean restaurant serves, in its own words, "fresh seafood, oysters on ice, steak and paella", and its Sunset Theater at the cliff edge is set up for sunset dinners. Rock Bar pours cocktails beside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. For tables across the peninsula, read Uluwatu restaurants; for a seafood night on the bay, dinner in Jimbaran.
Staying in Uluwatu
Uluwatu suits people who want space and quiet over a walkable strip: a villa with a pool on the cliff and a driver on call. Which part of the Bukit fits which trip, and what to ask before booking, is in villa rental in Uluwatu. If you are still deciding between areas, start with where to stay in Bali.
Getting around
Plan on a car with a driver. The venues are far enough apart that walking between them is not an option, and nights here end on dark roads. FirstBali arranges cars with a driver in the same message as the table, so the car that brings you to the sunset is still there after the club. If you ride a scooter in daylight, Indonesian law requires both rider and passenger to wear a helmet; after a night out, take the car. For the general picture, see getting around Bali.
How FirstBali helps
Tell the concierge your dates, the size of your group and what kind of day you want. FirstBali books daybeds and tables with the venue on your behalf; a booking is yours once the venue has confirmed it, on the terms the venue sets for that day. For Savaya's guestlist, we send you the night's link and you register yourself. An assistant answers at any hour, and the team through the Bali day and evening.
