What to wear to Bali clubs, men: the venues' own rules

Men in Bali's clubs: smart casual, no sportswear, no beer-branded singlets, no cut-offs, and flip-flops refused at several doors. The rules each venue publishes, then a kit that passes.

For men, Bali's clubs ask for smart casual: trousers or tailored shorts, a shirt or a plain top, and proper shoes. Beer-branded singlets, sportswear and cut-off clothing are refused at Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné, flip-flops are refused at Zumana, Desa Kitsuné and Les Toilettes, and two venues publish rules that name men directly. Here is what each venue says, then our advice, marked as such.

The rules that name men

Most published dress codes apply to everyone. Two venues single men out:

  • Akar, the K Club steakhouse north of Ubud whose Friday and Saturday dinners turn festive: smart casual, and singlets are not permitted for men.
  • El Kabron in Uluwatu: in the restaurant and the Sunset Theater, men must wear a shirt or a cover-up, and swimwear is not permitted there.

One more door rule concerns men without being about clothes: at Desa Kitsuné, the complimentary-entry cutoff on guestlist nights is earlier for men. The time is the one shown on the night's page, and all three Savaya Group venues state that mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.

Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné

Savaya (Uluwatu) asks for smart casual and puts it plainly: "A visit to Savaya Bali is an occasion, so please dress for it." Not permitted: work jeans or denim, beer-branded singlets, cut-off clothing and athletic sportswear; swimwear is for the pools. Its rules do not name flip-flops, but the door applies smart casual.

Zumana (Kuta) calls its code "upscale beach chic". Not permitted: work jeans or denim, beer-branded singlets, cut-off clothing, athletic sportswear and flip-flops.

Desa Kitsuné (Canggu) has the longest list: smart casual, and no chains, baggy clothing, hard-sole shoes, boots, flip-flops, sportswear, torn or cut-off clothing or beer-branded singlets. Denim is not on its list.

Seminyak and the beach clubs

Les Toilettes: "Smart casual attire is required. Sandals, flip-flops, athletic wear, and swimwear are not allowed." It is the one club here that names sandals too.

Miss Fish in Berawa, where dinner runs into the night: sandals, Crocs, shorts, singlets, hoodies and flip-flops are not permitted. It is the only venue in this guide that names shorts.

Finns enforces a strict no face and head tattoo policy, with no exceptions, and its style guide asks for no alcohol-branded gear, no sports-branded gear and no matching group outfits. El Kabron also refuses drink-logo tops, athletic wear, uniforms, branded matching outfits and themed costumes anywhere on site.

Les Toilettes

Les Toilettes

Clubs · Seminyak

Les Toilettes is the K-Club Group's nightclub on Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak, at the same address as Sardine, the group's seafood restaurant, so dinner and a late night can happen in one place. Now in its 2.0 version, the club draws on club concepts from around the world. Entry is for guests aged 21 and over, at the door's discretion, and the dress code is smart: no flip-flops, sandals or sportswear.

Miss Fish

Miss Fish

Restaurants · Berawa

Miss Fish is a Japanese restaurant and late-night venue on Jalan Raya Semat in Berawa, Canggu, open since 2022. Executive Chef Carlos Barvo leads a seasonal omakase that pairs Japanese technique with European and Latin American influences. Guests choose between the Omakase Bar, a chef-guided onyx counter, the open-air Patio and the Lounge for cocktails and shared plates, and the bar holds more than 40 sakes and Japanese whiskies. Later in the evening, DJs take over. Dress code: smart casual.

El Kabron

El Kabron

Beach clubs · Uluwatu

El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.

Our advice: one kit that passes everywhere

None of this is a venue rule; it is the way to satisfy every rule above at once.

  1. Trousers in linen or cotton, not denim, not joggers. Tailored shorts work at many beach clubs by day, but Miss Fish refuses shorts, so trousers are the safe evening choice.
  2. A shirt with buttons and a collar, or a plain fitted top with no logo. No singlet, even a plain one, if Akar or the El Kabron restaurant is on the plan.
  3. Shoes: clean closed shoes that are not boots, not hard-soled and not gym trainers. That one pair clears Desa Kitsuné's list and every flip-flop and sandal ban.
  4. No chains on show at Desa Kitsuné, and nothing baggy.
  5. Swimwear in the bag, never on the door: change before the restaurant or the club.
  6. Bachelor groups: skip the matching shirts and costumes. El Kabron and Finns name them, and the door decides on the night. Our bachelor party guide covers the rest.

The door decides

A guestlist registration or a table does not override the door, and every venue keeps the right to refuse entry. Bring the original ID, arrive sober, and if a rule is not published, ask before rather than guess. For the women's side of the same rules, see what to wear to Bali clubs for women.

Where FirstBali fits

Tell the concierge where you are going and when. FirstBali sends you the link to the night's guestlist page, books tables with the venue on your behalf, and asks the venue about its door when its rules are not published. A table is yours once the venue confirms it. Our assistant replies at any hour; the team picks up through the Bali day and evening.
