New Year's Eve dinner in Bali: where and how to book

A New Year's Eve dinner in Bali usually means a set menu, a table booked well ahead and often a deposit. Choose the mood — resort gala, cliff countdown, dinner that becomes a party — then book early.

A New Year's Eve dinner in Bali is booked unlike any other night of the year. Many restaurants replace their usual menu with a set or tasting menu for the night, the tables people want are taken early, and a deposit is often asked to hold one. Choose the mood first — a resort gala, a cliff and the countdown, or a dinner that turns into the party — then ask early through the concierge and settle the ride home at the same time.

How the night works

A set menu, not the usual card. On the big festive nights, many kitchens serve one menu for the whole room. The Apurva Kempinski, for instance, states on its festive pages that the regular menu at Bai Yun is not available on those nights, and that children have their own rate. Ask what the menu is before you choose: a long tasting dinner and a family buffet are two very different evenings.

Early booking. The best tables go first, and the hotels plan months ahead: The Apurva Kempinski notes that its booking window for December and January opens from August to October. For a restaurant, ask as soon as the venue announces its New Year's Eve menu, and earlier still for a large group.

Deposits and minimum spends. They exist on this night more than any other. The venue sets the amount and the terms; FirstBali asks the venue for your date and passes on the confirmed figure. Nothing is quoted before that, and the table is yours only once the venue confirms it.

Dinner and countdown can be two bookings. At resorts with several bars, the countdown is often reserved separately from dinner. AYANA's festive programme says so plainly: each of its countdown venues takes its own reservation.

Dress. Each venue sets its own code, and the night is dressier than usual. If the evening ends in a club, dress for the club door rather than the dinner table — see the Bali club dress code.

Choose the mood

A resort gala

The Apurva Kempinski sits on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, facing the Indian Ocean. Its festive programme centres New Year's Eve on a gala dinner that pairs Indonesian cuisine with cultural performance, alongside a countdown with cocktails and champagne and a rooftop bar with views over the coast. Koral, the resort's aquarium restaurant, serves set and tasting menus beside the tanks and is adults only at dinner. A gala suits a family or a group that wants the whole night in one place.

The cliff and the countdown

Rock Bar, at AYANA Bali in Jimbaran, runs along the rocks above the ocean and is reached by inclinator. In AYANA's festive programme it is one of the resort's countdown venues, with a DJ and a view of the fireworks. The Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests, so a visitor's seat has to be asked for early.

On the Uluwatu cliffs, El Kabron has its Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners, and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak.

The Apurva Kempinski

The Apurva Kempinski

Restaurants · Nusa Dua

The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a five-star resort on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, facing the Indian Ocean, and its dining spreads across several venues. Koral, which the hotel presents as Bali's first aquarium restaurant, serves set and tasting menus beside the tanks, adults only at dinner. Izakaya by OKU is a sister to OKU in Jakarta; Reef Beach Club sits on the sand beside a 42-metre infinity pool; Bai Yun serves hot pot and dim sum; L'Atelier by Cyril Kongo is a lounge with ocean views and Mediterranean tapas.

Rock Bar

Rock Bar

Bars · Jimbaran

Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretching some 270 metres along the rocks above the ocean, with 880 seats spread over 22 areas. Guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The bar pours cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment by card or QR only.

El Kabron

El Kabron

Beach clubs · Uluwatu

El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.

A dinner that turns into the party

Some rooms already become a party after dinner on an ordinary night: Bella, with its DJ booth and long bar; MOI, where the mood shifts after sunset; Jade by Todd English, with a daily DJ; and Miss Fish, where DJs take over later in the evening. In Seminyak, Sardine shares its address with Les Toilettes, the K-Club Group's nightclub, so dinner and a late night can happen in one place. What each of them plans for New Year's Eve is announced by the venue; the concierge asks for you.

A serious dinner

For a table that is about the food: the dry-aged cuts and table grills of Aged & Butchered in Berawa, the charcoal grill of Akar in the jungle north of Ubud — an evening that only works with someone else driving back — or the candlelit tables and long wine list of Riviera Bistro.

Sardine

Sardine

Restaurants · Seminyak

Sardine by K-Club is a seafood restaurant on Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak, set in an open-air bamboo building that looks over a stretch of rice paddies, with a terrace for lunch or dinner. The kitchen cooks the daily catch (yellowfin tuna, scallops, snapper) in a modern Mediterranean style, with vegetables from its own farms and a vegetarian set menu. Evenings can run late: Les Toilettes, the hidden club on site, hosts DJs, and once a month The Gates of Bali brings fire dancers and aerial acts.

BELLA

BELLA

Restaurants · Berawa

BELLA is a contemporary Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant on Jalan Pantai Berawa, run by The SEN Group. Executive chef Oğuz Karadoğan, formerly of Lokanta 1741 in Istanbul, cooks a wood-fired menu made for sharing: lamb meatballs in rich tomato sauce with Hokkaido bread, a Mediterranean ceviche of seabass, kefir and gremolata, a whole roasted cauliflower with tahini. The room is built around an open kitchen, a long bar and a DJ booth, and the evening turns into a party, with weekly Taverna nights and Kitchen Party.

Miss Fish

Miss Fish

Restaurants · Berawa

Miss Fish is a Japanese restaurant and late-night venue on Jalan Raya Semat in Berawa, Canggu, open since 2022. Executive Chef Carlos Barvo leads a seasonal omakase that pairs Japanese technique with European and Latin American influences. Guests choose between the Omakase Bar, a chef-guided onyx counter, the open-air Patio and the Lounge for cocktails and shared plates, and the bar holds more than 40 sakes and Japanese whiskies. Later in the evening, DJs take over. Dress code: smart casual.

Akar

Akar

Restaurants · Ubud

Akar, meaning “root”, is the steakhouse of K Club in Kedisan, Tegallalang, north of Ubud, set in the greenery of the jungle. Spread over two floors with two bars and an open kitchen, it grills Australian and Japanese cuts, Wagyu included, over charcoal, alongside seafood, charcoal-roasted bone marrow and a curated wine list. On Friday and Saturday nights dinner turns festive, with live DJs, dancers and a laser show. Akar has won Best Luxury Steakhouse in Indonesia at the World Luxury Restaurant Awards.

Dinner, then the party

Most people want both. Two things make that work.

Pick the party first, then the dinner near it. If the night ends at Savaya, a dinner on the same cliffs makes sense; if it ends in Seminyak, a table in Seminyak does. The three guestlists — Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné — each set their own terms for New Year's Eve, and some of their nights are ticketed only. Everything about them is in the New Year's Eve guestlist guide. All three are 21+ with valid ID.

Book the car with the table. On this night, more than any other, the ride is the part that goes wrong. A car with a driver who waits — or who meets you after the countdown — can be requested in the same conversation as the table; the private driver guide explains the options.

How FirstBali books it

Tell the concierge the mood you want, how many you are, whether there are children, any dietary needs, and whether the night continues somewhere else. FirstBali asks the venues, sends you the menu and the confirmed terms, and handles the deposit if one is asked. The table is yours once the venue confirms it; nothing before.

Questions we get asked

+Do I need to book New Year's Eve dinner in Bali in advance?

Yes, as early as you can. The tables people want go first, the large hotels open their December bookings months ahead, and a group needs more notice than a couple.

+Is New Year's Eve dinner in Bali a set menu?

Often, yes. Many restaurants replace their usual menu with a set or tasting menu for the night. Ask for the menu before you book so you know what kind of dinner it is.

+Is there a deposit for New Year's Eve dinner in Bali?

Often there is, and sometimes a minimum spend. The venue sets both; FirstBali passes on the confirmed amount for your date and quotes nothing before that.

+Where can I have dinner and watch the New Year's countdown in Bali?

Resorts are the simplest: AYANA lists Rock Bar among its countdown venues, and The Apurva Kempinski pairs a gala dinner with a countdown. At AYANA, each countdown venue is reserved separately from dinner.

+Can I have dinner and then go to a club on New Year's Eve in Bali?

Yes: choose the club first and book dinner nearby. Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné each set their own New Year's Eve terms, all three are 21+, and the car home is best booked with the table.

+What should I wear for New Year's Eve dinner in Bali?

Each venue sets its own dress code, and the night is dressier than usual. If the evening ends in a club, dress for the club door.
