Nusa Dua beach clubs: Le Bleu and Reef Beach Club

Nusa Dua does beach clubs the calm way: Le Bleu on Nusa Dua Beach and Reef Beach Club at The Apurva Kempinski. Seats, families, food and dress, and where to go when you want a party instead.

Nusa Dua's beach clubs are the calm kind: a day on the sand with lunch and a swim rather than a party. In our catalogue there are two, Le Bleu by K Club on Nusa Dua Beach and Reef Beach Club at The Apurva Kempinski, and both welcome families. If you want a DJ and a dance floor, Zumana at Sunset Bay, Kuta, is the Savaya Group's beach club for that.

Why Nusa Dua is different

The Nusa Dua is a resort area on the Bukit peninsula, managed by ITDC, a place of large hotels and meeting facilities. Its beach clubs follow that rhythm: kitchens that take lunch seriously, resort facilities, and a crowd of hotel guests, couples and families rather than a weekend party. For the area itself — where to eat, what happens at night — read our Nusa Dua guide.

Le Bleu by K Club

Le Bleu is a beachfront restaurant and beach club on Nusa Dua Beach, in the ITDC resort area, run by the K-Club Group, the group behind Sardine and Les Toilettes in Seminyak and Akar near Ubud. The look is the French Riviera by way of Bali, all blue and white.

The seats. Its site lists beach chairs, sunbeds and cabanas on the sand, plus a terrace deck, a lounge and an indoor restaurant. Le Bleu counts its sunbeds per person and its cabanas per pair.

The food. The kitchen leans on seafood, from lobster linguine to yellowfin tuna tataki, with vegetarian and vegan options. Le Bleu offers halal options and states that the utensils and ingredients for halal meals are kept strictly separate; pork is also on the menu.

The day. Beach games and beach volleyball, changing rooms with showers and beach towels. The weekly programme mixes yoga, cocktail workshops, beach games and festive Sunday gatherings with a DJ.

Families. On Saturdays and Sundays, children can play at Le Petit Corner while parents eat; the team can advise on optional kids' activities and nanny options. Parking carries no extra charge.

More in the Le Bleu guide.

Reef Beach Club at The Apurva Kempinski

The Apurva Kempinski is a five-star resort on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, and Reef Beach Club is its place on the sand, set in an expansive beachfront among tropical gardens. The hotel describes it as "a laid-back venue with a relaxed, fun, and family-friendly environment".

The seats. An infinity pool, cabanas, sun-loungers and sunbathing spots on the beachfront.

The dress code. The hotel lists it in one word: "Casual."

Booking. The hotel states that advance reservation is required, so ask before you go rather than turning up.

The same resort holds Koral, which the hotel presents as Bali's first aquarium restaurant, and L'Atelier by Cyril Kongo, a lounge with ocean views; the full list is in the Apurva Kempinski dining guide.

Which one for you

  • A long lunch and a swim with children: both work; Le Bleu adds Le Petit Corner at weekends.
  • A cabana for two: Le Bleu counts its cabanas per pair.
  • A resort day with dinner on site: Reef Beach Club, then one of the Apurva's restaurants.
  • Halal options: Le Bleu says so on its own site.

When you want a party

Neither is a party beach club. For a DJ, a dance floor and a sunset that turns into a night, Zumana at Sunset Bay, Kuta, is the Savaya Group's beach club, with Ritual of the Sun on Saturdays and Zumana Sunday every week. It is 21+, with photo ID.

Further down the peninsula, Savaya on the Uluwatu clifftop is the night out; see Uluwatu beach clubs.

How FirstBali arranges it

Tell the concierge the beach club, the date, how many you are, any children, and whether you want a sunbed, a cabana or a table at the restaurant. FirstBali asks the venue and passes on its answer and its terms; your place is booked only once the venue confirms it. A driver for the day can be added in the same conversation. An assistant answers at any hour, and the team through the Bali day and evening.
