Retirement party in Bali: dinner, sunset and a night out

Celebrating a retirement in Bali? Start with a sunset or a private dining room, add a reserved table at Savaya, Zumana or Desa Kitsuné if the night should go on, and book cars for the whole group.

A retirement party in Bali works best as an evening in two parts: a dinner or a sunset where speeches can be heard, then, if the guest of honour wants it, a reserved table at one of the island's big venues. Ina Ré at Desa Kitsuné has private dining rooms for groups, Rock Bar in Jimbaran watches the sun set over the sea, and Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné offer tables for the night that follows. FirstBali arranges it with the venues and books the cars.

Decide what kind of farewell it is

Some retirements call for a long table and a toast; others for the party the guest of honour has been postponing for years. Ask them first. The answer decides everything else: a dinner-only evening can include every generation, while a club night means every guest is 21+ with photo ID. Many groups do both, with the dinner for everyone and the club for those who want to continue.

Part one: a dinner where the toasts can be heard

  • Ina Ré, Canggu. The restaurant of Desa Kitsuné, where Chilean chef Cristian Encina pairs Mediterranean flavours with Latin American street food: paellas to share, ceviches and wood-fired meats. It includes private dining rooms for groups, which is where a speech belongs. Details are in Ina Ré private dining.
  • Rock Bar, Jimbaran. AYANA Bali's cliffside bar, reached by inclinator, for a sunset over the sea with cocktails and Mediterranean tapas; visitors not staying at the resort can reserve.
  • The Apurva Kempinski, Nusa Dua. A cliffside resort facing the Indian Ocean with several restaurants, from Koral beside its aquarium tanks, adults only at dinner, to Izakaya by OKU.
  • Akar, north of Ubud. K Club's steakhouse in the jungle at Kedisan, Tegallalang, where dinner turns festive on Friday and Saturday nights with live DJs, dancers and a laser show.
Ina Ré

Ina Ré

Restaurants · Canggu

Ina Ré is the restaurant of Desa Kitsuné, the lifestyle village on Jalan Munduk Catu in Canggu. Chilean executive chef Cristian Encina brings together Mediterranean flavours and Latin American street food: paellas to share, ceviches, tacos, empanadas and wood-fired meats such as the Stockyard tomahawk. The space draws on Balinese arts and crafts, with handmade materials, weavings and traditional motifs, and includes private dining rooms for groups. Sunday brunch has its own menu, and so do Courtyard Saturdays.

Rock Bar

Rock Bar

Bars · Jimbaran

Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretching some 270 metres along the rocks above the ocean, with 880 seats spread over 22 areas. Guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The bar pours cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment by card or QR only.

The Apurva Kempinski

The Apurva Kempinski

Restaurants · Nusa Dua

The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a five-star resort on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, facing the Indian Ocean, and its dining spreads across several venues. Koral, which the hotel presents as Bali's first aquarium restaurant, serves set and tasting menus beside the tanks, adults only at dinner. Izakaya by OKU is a sister to OKU in Jakarta; Reef Beach Club sits on the sand beside a 42-metre infinity pool; Bai Yun serves hot pot and dim sum; L'Atelier by Cyril Kongo is a lounge with ocean views and Mediterranean tapas.

Akar

Akar

Restaurants · Ubud

Akar, meaning “root”, is the steakhouse of K Club in Kedisan, Tegallalang, north of Ubud, set in the greenery of the jungle. Spread over two floors with two bars and an open kitchen, it grills Australian and Japanese cuts, Wagyu included, over charcoal, alongside seafood, charcoal-roasted bone marrow and a curated wine list. On Friday and Saturday nights dinner turns festive, with live DJs, dancers and a laser show. Akar has won Best Luxury Steakhouse in Indonesia at the World Luxury Restaurant Awards.

Part two: a table for the night that follows

If the evening continues, a table is what turns a club into a private celebration: it is the only reserved space at Savaya and Zumana, a base for the group to come back to, and at both clubs the only way to leave and re-enter. Its minimum spend is set by the venue for each night, and the Savaya and Zumana table maps state that it includes food and beverage credit. FirstBali books it with the venue; it belongs to the group once the venue confirms it, and any deposit follows the venue's terms.

  • Savaya, Uluwatu. The clifftop club in Pecatu, with The Cube on the horizon: sunset sets, Last Light on Mondays and international headliners at weekends.
  • Zumana, Kuta. The Savaya Group's beach club at Sunset Bay, with Ritual of the Sun on Saturdays and headliners on Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Desa Kitsuné, Canggu. The garden party on Tuesdays and Fridays, rain or shine, a few steps from Ina Ré: dinner and party in one village.

Door rules for a mixed-age group

All three venues are 21+ and ask for a valid photo ID, a passport or a driving licence, and the dress is smart casual. Guestlists, where a night has one, are registered individually per guest on the night's page; registration does not guarantee entry, management decides, and the venues say mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred. With a large party, a table is the more predictable route. Savaya is cashless and searches bags. More in a large group night out.

Getting everyone there and back

A retirement party often mixes guests staying in different areas. Book cars or a van with a driver for the whole group, so nobody has to arrange their own ride at the end of the night. A van with a driver keeps the group together. Keep 112 in your phone for emergencies.

How FirstBali helps

Tell the concierge the date, the number of guests, the ages if some are under 21, and the tone you want. FirstBali asks the venues what can be arranged for the dinner, books the table for the night with the venue on your behalf, sends any guestlist links and books the cars. Nothing is final until the venue confirms it. An assistant answers at any hour, and the team works through the Bali day and evening.

Questions we get asked

+Where can we hold a retirement dinner in Bali?

Ina Ré at Desa Kitsuné has private dining rooms for groups; Rock Bar in Jimbaran and The Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua are alternatives with an ocean view.

+Can guests under 21 come?

Not to the club part: Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné are 21+. Plan the dinner for everyone and the club for those of age.

+Is a table better than the guestlist for a big group?

A table is the only reserved space at Savaya and Zumana, while guestlist registration does not guarantee entry. The table's minimum spend is set by the venue per night.

+Can dinner and the party be in the same place?

Yes, at Desa Kitsuné: Ina Ré is in the same village as the Tuesday and Friday garden parties.

+Is the booking confirmed when I pay a deposit?

No. A deposit follows the venue's terms; the booking is confirmed only when the venue confirms it.
