Desa Kitsuné and MU:IN are two good nights out that have almost nothing in common, which makes the choice easier than it looks. Desa Kitsuné is an open-air garden party in Canggu, held on Tuesdays and Fridays, rain or shine, in a village by the Savaya Group and Maison Kitsuné. MU:IN is an indoor nightclub on Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak, from a nightlife brand born in Seoul, designed around sound, lasers and a DJ stage in the middle of the crowd. Garden and sky, or a dark room and a sound system: that is the decision. FirstBali arranges both through the concierge.

The short answer

  • Open air, a pool, cabanas and daybeds: Desa Kitsuné.
  • A proper club room, lasers and a big sound: MU:IN.
  • A Tuesday or a Friday: Desa Kitsuné's party nights, guest DJs on Tuesdays and Bali-based DJs on Fridays.
  • A free guestlist on the right night: Desa Kitsuné, whose list is the venue's own and shown on each night's page.
  • Bottle service on sofas facing the floor: MU:IN's VIP sofas look straight onto the main floor; Desa Kitsuné has tables, cabanas and daybeds in the garden.
  • Staying in Canggu: Desa Kitsuné. Staying in Seminyak: MU:IN.

Setting

Desa Kitsuné is a lifestyle village in the heart of Canggu; desa means village. It was created by the Savaya Group with the French-Japanese brand Maison Kitsuné, and Café Kitsuné, the Ina Ré restaurant and a Maison Kitsuné boutique share the grounds. On party nights, the Garden becomes the dance floor.

MU:IN brings a club brand from Seoul to Seminyak. The room is the point: a towering sound system, immersive lasers, a kinetic lighting rig with LED production, and a stage that puts the DJ in the middle of the crowd.

Music and the week

At Desa Kitsuné, the parties are on Tuesday and Friday nights: guest DJs on Tuesdays, Bali-based DJs on Fridays. The coming nights and their terms are on the event pages.

At MU:IN, resident DJs and international guests rotate through weekly signature nights. The line-up for a given night is on its card and its own announcements, and the concierge can check what is on for your date.

Weather

This is a real difference in Bali. Desa Kitsuné runs "rain or shine", and how a wet garden night feels is covered in Desa Kitsuné, rain or shine. MU:IN is indoors, which makes it the obvious fallback on a stormy evening.

Door and dress

Both are 21+. At Desa Kitsuné, bring a valid photo ID (passport or driver's licence); the dress code is smart casual. See the Desa Kitsuné dress code. At MU:IN, bring your ID too, and dress for a club night; the Bali club dress code covers the basics.

Guestlist, tables and bottles

Desa Kitsuné runs its own guestlist. You register individually on the night's page and get a digital ticket by email. Joining is free; entry is complimentary before the cutoff shown on the night's page, which is earlier for men, and reduced after. Registration does not guarantee complimentary entry, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred. Some nights are ticketed only. A table is the only reserved space, with a minimum spend set by the venue per night. Read the Desa Kitsuné guestlist and booking a table.

MU:IN sells VIP sofas with bottle service, set by the venue for the night. Bottle service in Bali explains how it works.

At both, nothing is yours until the venue confirms it. Any deposit follows the venue's terms and is not a confirmation.

Before and after

Desa Kitsuné has dinner on site: Ina Ré shares the grounds, so the evening can start at the table and end in the garden. More in where to eat before Desa Kitsuné. MU:IN is on Jalan Petitenget, a street of restaurants and bars, which makes a Seminyak dinner first an easy plan; see Seminyak nightlife.

Which one for which group

  • A couple or a mixed group who want the outdoors: Desa Kitsuné.
  • Friends who came to dance in a club: MU:IN.
  • A birthday: either, with a table or sofa booked ahead. See a birthday at Desa Kitsuné.
  • Two nights in one week: Desa Kitsuné on Tuesday or Friday, MU:IN on another night.
