Sanur Bali guide: sunrise beach, calm water and nights out

Sanur, on Bali's east-facing coast: white sand, sunrise, calm water for swimming and snorkelling, a beachfront path. And how to plan a night at Zumana, Savaya or Desa Kitsuné from there.

Sanur is Bali's sunrise beach: white sand, calm water for swimming and snorkelling, and a long path along the shore for walking, cycling or jogging. It is a place for slow mornings rather than late nights, and none of the venues FirstBali books is in Sanur, so a night out means a driver to Zumana in Kuta, Savaya in Pecatu or Desa Kitsuné in Canggu.

Sanur at a glance

Indonesia's official tourism site calls Sanur Beach "one of Bali's iconic tourist destinations", known for its white sand and gentle waters, and names sunrise as the best moment to visit. Its "calm waves" suit swimming and snorkelling, with gear to rent on the beach, and a long walkway runs along the shore, "perfect for enjoying the ocean view while cycling or jogging".

That makes Sanur a different choice from the west coast. Canggu, Seminyak and Uluwatu face the sunset and the surf; Sanur faces the morning. Our where to stay guide compares the areas.

Days in Sanur

  1. Sunrise on the beach. The reason people come; the official page says so plainly.
  2. The beachfront path, on foot or by bike, before the day warms up.
  3. A swim or snorkel in the calm water.
  4. An afternoon elsewhere. A driver opens the rest of the island: see getting around Bali and private drivers.

The official page also notes that several Trans Metro Dewata bus routes serve the area, which helps for daytime trips. For evenings out, a car with a driver who waits is simpler.

Evenings: what to know

The official Sanur page does not describe nightlife, and FirstBali has no partner venue in Sanur. Rather than guess at bars we have not checked, we point Sanur guests to the evenings we know well:

  • A beach-club Sunday in Nusa Dua. Le Bleu by K Club, on Nusa Dua Beach, holds festive Sunday gatherings with a DJ in its weekly programme, alongside yoga, cocktail workshops and beach games.

Nights out from Sanur: the partner clubs

When you want a real night, the three partner clubs are the plan:

  • Zumana is a Savaya Group beach club at Sunset Bay in Kuta, built around daybeds, pools, bars and an open-air dance floor. Saturdays are Ritual of the Sun, Sundays Zumana Sunday, and weeknights rotate, including Made in Kuta.
  • Savaya sits on the Uluwatu clifftop in Pecatu, with pools and The Cube framing the horizon. DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs named it number one in Asia three years running and fifth in the world, as Savaya reports. Mondays are Last Light, weekends bring headliners, Sundays are People of the Sun.
  • Desa Kitsuné in Canggu is a Savaya Group village with Maison Kitsuné, where the Garden becomes the party every Tuesday and Friday, rain or shine.

All three are 21+ with a valid photo ID, a passport or a driver's licence. Guestlists are the venues' own: you register for each night on its page, linked from the Guestlist button on the events calendar, and get a digital ticket by email. Joining is free; entry is complimentary before the cutoff shown on the night's page and reduced after (earlier for men at Desa Kitsuné). Registration does not guarantee entry, some nights are ticketed only, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.

Planning the night from Sanur

  1. Choose the night on [/events](/events) and read its page: list, ticket or table.
  2. Book a driver who waits, so the return to Sanur is settled before you leave: a driver for a night out.
  3. Eat first or at the club: Zumana has its restaurant, Manuza; Savaya and Desa Kitsuné serve food too, and Ina Ré sits within Desa Kitsuné.
  4. Reserve a table if you want your own space. It is the only reserved space at the partner clubs; its minimum spend is set by the venue per night. FirstBali books it with the venue, it is yours once the venue confirms, and any deposit follows the venue's terms and is not a confirmation.

At Savaya and Zumana, re-entry is only with a table. Savaya is cashless, searches bags and accepts no luggage.
