Uluwatu Friday night: Savaya, cliff sunsets and the plan

A Friday night in Uluwatu: Savaya's weekend begins on the Pecatu clifftop, El Kabron's sunset parties and White Rock's DJs fill the afternoon. How to check the night and plan it.

A Friday night in Uluwatu starts with the sunset on the cliffs and can end at Savaya. The Pecatu clifftop club runs its international headliners at weekends, so check on the calendar whether your Friday is one of those nights; El Kabron's sunset parties and White Rock's resident DJs fill the hours before. Pick the night first, then build the afternoon around it.

Is Friday a headliner night at Savaya?

Savaya's own description is precise: Last Light every Monday, weekday nights, and international headliners at weekends. It does not promise a headliner on every Friday, so we do not either. The calendar above shows what is published for each date, with its own Guestlist or Table button. A night showing only Table is ticketed only, and official tickets come only through the venue's own channel; in Savaya's words they are "primarily for standing room only". Before Savaya: the Uluwatu afternoon

Two catalogue venues make the afternoon:

  • El Kabron. On the limestone cliffs of Pecatu, above the Indian Ocean. The Hedonism Lounge is an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge is set up for sunset dinners. Its weekly sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the regulars.   • White Rock Beach Club. On Melasti Beach in Ungasan, at the end of the cliff, with daybeds, sofas and cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool. Resident DJs play every day, and foam parties run at weekends.

El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.

White Rock Beach Club sits on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, near Uluwatu, at the end of the cliff. Guests settle on daybeds, sofas or cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool; families have a kids' pool and a kids' menu. There is a spa, a large covered restaurant serving local and international dishes, and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites overlooking the pool and the ocean. Resident DJs play every day, and foam parties run at weekends. The club also hosts weddings and events.

A Friday plan

  1. Choose the night. Check the Friday on Savaya's calendar, and decide between a guestlist, a ticket or a table.
  2. Choose the afternoon. A daybed at White Rock or the Hedonism Lounge at El Kabron, or a sunset dinner in El Kabron's Sunset Theater.
  3. Register yourself if there is a list. Every guest registers individually on the night's page and gets a digital ticket by email. Joining is free; entry is complimentary before the cutoff shown on that night's page and reduced after it. Registration does not guarantee complimentary entry, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.
  4. Book the table early if you want one. A table is the only reserved space and the only way to leave and come back. The venue sets its minimum spend per night; on Savaya's map it "Includes Food & Beverage Credit".
  5. Arrange the car. Between the beach, the cliff and the villa, ask transport for a driver for the evening.

The door at Savaya

Strictly 21+, with a valid photo ID: a passport or driving licence. Smart casual. Savaya is cashless, searches bags, has limited lockers and accepts no luggage or outside food or drink, so the beach bag from the afternoon stays in the car. Details in the Savaya dress code.

Friday elsewhere on the island

If your Friday is not a Savaya night, or you are staying further north, the two other Savaya Group venues each have a fixed Friday. Zumana, on Sunset Bay in Kuta, has its headliner night on Fridays. Desa Kitsuné, in Canggu, holds its weekly garden party every Friday, "rain or shine". Bali Friday night compares the three.
