40th birthday in Bali: a dinner, a sunset and a table

Turning 40 in Bali: a celebration dinner, a sunset at Savaya's Last Light or Zumana's Ritual of the Sun, and a table of your own at a partner club, arranged by FirstBali's concierge.

Updated October 23, 2026 · 4 min read

A 40th birthday in Bali is usually a celebration in three parts: a dinner where everyone sits together, a sunset that marks the moment, and a table of your own if the night carries on. Savaya's Last Light on Mondays and Zumana's Ritual of the Sun on Saturdays join the sunset and the party; Ina Ré at Desa Kitsuné has private dining rooms for the dinner. FirstBali books each part with the venues, and nothing is confirmed until they confirm it.

A 40th is a dinner first

At 40 the guest list often mixes old friends, partners and family, and not everyone wants to dance until late. The dinner is the part that brings everyone together, so plan it first and let the night follow for those who want it. For a younger, club-centred version, see a 30th birthday in Bali; for the general toolkit, a birthday party in Bali.

Where to hold the dinner

  • Ina Ré, Canggu. The restaurant of Desa Kitsuné, with Mediterranean flavours and Latin American street food by Chilean executive chef Cristian Encina — paellas to share, ceviches, wood-fired meats — and private dining rooms for groups. On a Tuesday or Friday, the garden party is a short walk away. See private dining at Ina Ré.
  • El Kabron, Uluwatu. On the limestone cliffs of Pecatu, its Sunset Theater at the cliff edge is set up for sunset dinners, beside a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak.
  • Manuza at Zumana, Kuta. Zumana's own restaurant, so dinner and the beach club are on the same site.
  • At the villa. For a dinner nobody has to travel to, see a private chef at your villa.

The sunset as the toast

Two of the partner venues have a weekly night built around the light:

  • Savaya, Monday: Last Light. The sunset set from The Cube, on the Uluwatu clifftop 100 metres above the Indian Ocean. Savaya reports that DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs named it the number-one club in Asia from 2024 to 2026 and fifth in the world in 2026. See Savaya Last Light.
  • Zumana, Saturday: Ritual of the Sun. The weekly sunset night on the beachfront at Sunset Bay, Kuta. See Ritual of the Sun.

A sunset night suits a 40th: the moment everyone remembers comes early, and those who want to leave after it can.

If the night carries on

Weekend headliners at Savaya, headliner nights at Zumana on Wednesdays and Fridays, or Desa Kitsuné's garden party in Canggu every Tuesday and Friday, rain or shine.

For a mixed group, a table is the comfortable choice: it is the only reserved space, somewhere to sit between dances, and at Savaya and Zumana the only way to step out and come back. The venue sets its minimum spend for each night; on the Savaya and Zumana maps it includes food and beverage credit. FirstBali asks what that night's map offers for your group. The table is yours once the venue confirms it; any deposit follows the venue's terms and is not a confirmation.

Making it feel like a 40th

A cake at dinner, a message on the table, a bottle brought out at the chosen moment: ask, never assume. The partner venues publish no birthday package, so FirstBali promises none; tell the concierge what you would like, and FirstBali checks with each venue what can be arranged for your date and tells you what it confirms. For a day on the water before the evening, see a birthday on a boat.

Practical points for the group

  • Everyone over 21 needs ID. The three clubs are 21+ with a valid passport or driver's licence; teenagers celebrating with you can join the dinner, not the club.
  • One dress code for the evening. Smart casual works for these dinners and the three clubs.
  • Savaya travels light. Cashless, bags searched, limited lockers, no luggage.
  • Drivers both ways. Book cars for the whole evening, so guests can leave after dinner or after the sunset as they choose.
  • The door decides. Management has the final word, booking or not.

How FirstBali arranges it

Tell the concierge the date, how many are coming to dinner and how many to the night, and where everyone stays. FirstBali books the dinner and the table with the venues, sends the guestlist link if the night has one, and adds cars with drivers. An assistant answers at any hour, the team through the Bali day and evening.

Questions we get asked

A dinner at Ina Ré's private rooms or El Kabron's Sunset Theater, a sunset at Savaya's Last Light or Zumana's Ritual of the Sun, then a table if the night carries on.

+Which night suits a 40th at Savaya?

Last Light on Mondays if the sunset is the highlight; a weekend headliner if the group wants a big night.

+Can guests under 21 come?

To the dinner, yes. Savaya, Zumana and Desa Kitsuné's parties are 21+ with a valid photo ID.

+Do the venues have 40th birthday packages?

None publishes one. FirstBali asks each venue what can be arranged for your date and tells you what it confirms.

+Is the table confirmed once we pay a deposit?

No. Any deposit follows the venue's terms; the table is yours once the venue confirms it.
