Rooftop bars in Bali: the real rooftop and the clifftops
Rooftop bars in Bali: the Apurva Kempinski's Pala rooftop bar in Nusa Dua, and why Bali's best views are on the cliffs, at Rock Bar, Savaya and El Kabron, rather than on roofs.
Updated October 21, 2026 · 3 min read

Bali has few true rooftop bars, because the island builds low and its views come from the cliffs instead. Among the venues FirstBali works with, the one with a rooftop bar confirmed by its own hotel is Pala Restaurant & Rooftop Bar at The Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua. For a drink high above the water, the island's real answer is a clifftop: Rock Bar in Jimbaran, Savaya and El Kabron in Uluwatu.
Why so few rooftops in Bali
Most of Bali's south is low-rise, with resorts spread across gardens rather than stacked into towers. What the island does have is limestone cliffs above the Indian Ocean along the Bukit peninsula, and that is where the venues with the widest views are built. If what you want from a "rooftop" is height, sky and a sunset over the sea, a clifftop gives you more of it.
Pala Rooftop Bar, The Apurva Kempinski
The Apurva Kempinski is a five-star resort on the cliffs of Nusa Dua, facing the Indian Ocean. Pala, its restaurant set in the middle of a long pool in the main gardens, has live cooking stations and a wide local and international menu, with Indian dishes a strength. Above it, on the second floor, the hotel offers a rooftop bar for relaxing through the day, and in the evening guests can dine under the night sky with views of the resort.
The same resort has L'Atelier by Cyril Kongo, a lounge with ocean views and Mediterranean tapas, and Reef Beach Club on the sand beside an infinity pool. More in the Apurva Kempinski dining guide.
The clifftop alternatives
Rock Bar, Jimbaran. AYANA Bali's cliffside bar stretches along the rocks above the ocean, reached by inclinator. Guests watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on, with cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea and Mediterranean tapas. Non-resident visitors can reserve; some areas are kept for villa and hotel guests, and payment is by card or QR only. See the Rock Bar guide.
Savaya, Uluwatu. A clifftop club in Pecatu, set some 100 metres above the Indian Ocean between jungle and limestone cliffs, with pools and The Cube framing the horizon. DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs named it the number-one club in Asia from 2024 to 2026 and fifth in the world in 2026, as Savaya reports. Its Monday night, Last Light, is a sunset set from The Cube. It is strictly 21+, cashless and smart casual.

Rock Bar
Bars · Jimbaran
Rock Bar is AYANA Bali's cliffside bar in Jimbaran, stretching some 270 metres along the rocks above the ocean, with 880 seats spread over 22 areas. Guests reach it by inclinator, watch the sun set over the sea, then stay as the DJs play on. The bar pours cocktails inspired by the colours of the sea alongside Mediterranean tapas built on Jimbaran Bay seafood. Non-resident visitors can reserve; the Round Deck is kept for villa guests and the Top Bar for hotel guests. Payment by card or QR only.
El Kabron
Beach clubs · Uluwatu
El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.
On the beach, not above it
If you were searching for a rooftop for the sunset rather than for the height, a beachfront club may be what you want. Zumana, the Savaya Group's beach club at Sunset Bay in Kuta, has daybeds, bars and an open-air dance floor facing the water, open daily, with Ritual of the Sun on Saturdays.

How to choose
- A quiet drink with a view, in a hotel: Pala's rooftop bar or L'Atelier at the Apurva Kempinski.
- The sunset as the main event: Rock Bar or El Kabron.
- A sunset that becomes a party: Savaya on a Monday for Last Light, or Zumana on the beach.
Practical points
- Book the sunset seat. The edge of the cliff is what everyone wants; ask early, especially at weekends and in high season.
- Check the door. Savaya and Zumana are 21+ with a valid photo ID; hotel bars set their own rules for non-residents.
- Plan the way back. The Bukit's cliff roads are slow in the evening; a driver who waits helps. See the private driver guide.
