Maison Kitsuné's boutique in Bali is inside Desa Kitsuné, the lifestyle village the Savaya Group created with the brand on Jalan Munduk Catu in Canggu. It is a 100-square-metre shop that, in the village's words, curates "both the latest brand collections as well as special projects". Around it are Café Kitsuné, the Ina Ré restaurant and the Garden, which hosts a party every Tuesday and Friday.

The brand

Maison Kitsuné is a Paris lifestyle brand founded by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki. It began as a music label and grew into a fashion house and a chain of cafés, Café Kitsuné, with addresses in cities such as Paris, Tokyo, London and New York. The French-Japanese pairing runs through everything it does, and its fox is the emblem you will see on the clothes.

Bali is one of the few places where the three sides of the brand, fashion, coffee and music, meet on the same grounds: the boutique, the café, and a garden where DJs play twice a week.

The boutique

Desa Kitsuné presents its shop like this: "Of course, Desa wouldn't be complete without a 100 square metre Maison Kitsuné boutique, created to curate both the latest brand collections as well as special projects."

For the opening, the brand imagined an exclusive capsule collection, described as "an ode to slow life and the summer vibe, combining pieces in light cotton voile and poplin in sunkissed colours, with T-shirts and graphic accessories on which our Fox stands out in his new Balinese adventure". Collections change with the seasons, so what is on the rails on the day of your visit is the boutique's own choice; we do not list stock or prices.

The village around it

Desa means "village" in Indonesian. Desa Kitsuné describes itself as "a unique lifestyle village located in the heart of Canggu", a 5,000-square-metre oasis "offering chic Parisian café culture, serene outdoor lounging, gourmet dining, designer shopping and lively parties". The boutique is the "designer shopping"; the rest is a few steps away:

  • Café Kitsuné, for signature coffees and pastries, "a taste of Paris in the heart of Bali": see Café Kitsuné Bali.
  • Ina Ré, the restaurant, where Chilean chef Cristian Encina brings together Mediterranean flavours and Latin American street food: see Ina Ré Bali.
  • The Garden, which becomes the party every Tuesday and Friday, "rain or shine".

Shopping, dinner, then a party night

The village was built for a whole day, which makes the boutique easy to fit into an evening:

  1. Late afternoon: the boutique and a coffee at Café Kitsuné.
  2. Dinner: a table at Ina Ré.
  3. The garden party: guest DJs on Tuesdays, Bali-based DJs on Fridays, plus occasional one-off nights.

Two things to know before you plan the third step:

  • Entry is its own thing. Shopping or dining on site does not put you on the guestlist. Each guest registers individually, for each night, on that night's page; it is free and gives complimentary entry before the night's cutoff, which is earlier for men than for women, with a reduced fee after it. Some nights are ticketed only, with no list. A garden table is the only reserved space, with a minimum spend set by the venue for the night, and it is yours once Desa Kitsuné confirms it.
  • Dress for the door, not just the shop. The party is 21+ and smart casual: no flip-flops, no sportswear, no beer-branded singlets, no torn or cut-off or baggy clothing, no chains, no boots or hard-sole shoes. If you buy something at the boutique, it may well be what you wear that night. Details in the Desa Kitsuné dress code.

The full evening, step by step, is in Desa Kitsuné, dinner and party, and the list's rules in the Desa Kitsuné guestlist.

Who it suits

  • Fans of the brand who want a piece bought in Bali, with the possibility of a capsule made for the island.
  • A couple or friends looking for an afternoon in Canggu that is not the beach, with coffee, a shop and dinner in one place.
  • A group on a party night, who can shop, eat and dance without changing address, and need only one drop-off and one pick-up.

Practical points

The coming garden nights

Through FirstBali

The boutique needs no booking. For the evening around it, tell the concierge the date and how many you are: FirstBali asks Ina Ré for a dinner table, books a garden table with the venue, or sends you the link to the night's guestlist page, where you register yourself. Each booking is yours once the venue confirms it.
