Dinner and club in Uluwatu: plan it by the night

In Uluwatu, the club is Savaya, on the Pecatu clifftop, and the dinner is best kept on the same cliffs: El Kabron's Mediterranean restaurant or its Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, or the covered restaurant at White Rock Beach Club on Melasti Beach. What changes is the order. On a Monday, Savaya's sunset event comes first and dinner can follow; on a weekend headliner night, dinner comes first and the club later.

The three Uluwatu addresses

• White Rock Beach Club, on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, has a large covered restaurant serving local and international dishes, and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites overlooking the pool and the ocean.

El Kabron

El Kabron stands on the limestone cliffs of Pecatu in Uluwatu, above the Indian Ocean, and has been open since 2011. It has three parts: the Hedonism Lounge, an adults-only infinity-pool area with daybeds and sofas; the Sunset Theater at the cliff edge, set up for sunset dinners; and a Mediterranean restaurant serving seafood, oysters, paella and steak. Its sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, with the White Sunset Party, the Afro House Sunset Party and pool parties among the weekly regulars.

White Rock Beach Club

White Rock Beach Club sits on Melasti Beach in Ungasan, near Uluwatu, at the end of the cliff. Guests settle on daybeds, sofas or cabanas around a lagoon pool and a rock pool; families have a kids' pool and a kids' menu. There is a spa, a large covered restaurant serving local and international dishes, and enclosed, air-conditioned party suites overlooking the pool and the ocean. Resident DJs play every day, and foam parties run at weekends. The club also hosts weddings and events.

Monday: Last Light, then dinner

Savaya's Monday is Last Light, a sunset set played from The Cube. It is the one night of the week when the club's main moment is the sunset itself, so the usual order turns round: Savaya first, then a late dinner. If you would rather eat before, keep it early and light, because the point of the evening is to be on the cliff for the sunset. Savaya's Last Light explains the night.

Weekend headliners: dinner first

At weekends, Savaya brings international headliners, and some of those nights are ticketed only. Here the classic order works: a sunset dinner at El Kabron's Sunset Theater, or a longer meal at its restaurant, then Savaya for the night. El Kabron's own sunset parties bring DJs with live saxophone, violin and trumpet, so the dinner already has music before the club does.

If you are on Savaya's guestlist for the night, book dinner so that you reach the club before the cutoff shown on the night's page. Joining the list is free, entry is complimentary before that cutoff and reduced after, and registration does not guarantee complimentary entry: management decides, and mixed groups and couples are strongly preferred.

Sundays and weeknights

On Sundays, Savaya holds People of the Sun, and other weekday nights run through the week. Check the night's page before you plan: the terms, whether a list is open and whether it is ticketed only change night by night. White Rock, whose resident DJs play every day, suits a group that wants a long afternoon and dinner in one place before heading to the club.

What dinner does not cover

A dinner booking at El Kabron or White Rock is a restaurant reservation. It does not put you on Savaya's list or hold you a place there. At Savaya, the only reserved space is a table: its minimum spend is set by the venue per night and, on Savaya's map, includes food and beverage credit. The table is yours once Savaya confirms it, and any deposit follows the venue's terms and is not a confirmation. With a table you can also leave and come back in, which you cannot do otherwise. Before you go

1. Bring your ID. Savaya is 21+ with a valid photo ID, a passport or a driver's licence.
2. Pay by card or phone. Savaya is cashless.
3. Travel light. Bags are searched, lockers are limited and luggage is not accepted; no outside food or drink.
4. Dress once. Smart casual works for El Kabron, White Rock and Savaya. See the Savaya dress code.
